Who's Afraid of the Zoo?

Who's afraid of the Zoo? Not you?
Let's find out who as we read Fraidyzoo by Thyra Heder.

While we read, I want you to think about some of the animals you saw when you went on your field trip to the Frank Buck Zoo and the Aquarium. Did you see any of the animals we read? Were the animals in the book realistic looking? What animal is your favorite? Why? Is this the animal you are going to research for your animal research project?

Visit the Smithsonian National Zoological Park’s AnimalCams at http://nationalzoo.si.edu/animals/webcams/ to see pandas, naked mole rats and other animals!

Tap the Magic Tree

Flowers are peeping up out of the ground and trees are starting to show a little green. Spring must be around the corner!

Let's celebrate by reading Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson
Click HERE to access a handy teacher guide

As we read Tap the Magic Tree: we tapped, wiggle, giggled, discussed cycles (seasons, weather, life),  and talked about what clues in nature let us know what season we are experiencing.

We all agreed Mother Nature is full of 'nature magic'!

Count the Monkeys extension

After reading Count the Monkeys and (spoiler alert...found out there were NO monkeys) we just had to create a book using our own creatures to count!

We:
got into groups
designed our own picture using crayons and markers
took the pictures with our ipad
uploaded into bookcreator app
finished up the book in bookcreator

It was a process, but man was it fun!!!

My Blue is Happy, what is your blue?

We had so much reading My Blue is Happy we decided to write our own version!

On chart paper we jotted down some of our colors that bring out different emotions, then we charted our thoughts on what emotion the color brings and added a description.

We fined tuned our thoughts and created a www.blendspace.com.
Easy peasy! We <3 BLENDSPACE!
