In Pavel and the Tree Army by
Heidi Smith Hyde and Illustrated by Elisa Vavouri, Pavel takes us on a personal
and uplifting journey.
Pavel is
excited to start his journey with the Civilian Conservation Corps planting
trees, building dams, and taking care of the land across America.
As the crew travels across America , Pavel and the other immigrants are met with unkind behavior and are even told they are not real Americans beacuse they were not born in America.
However, on the Fourth of July, Pavel and the other immigrants found the courage to perform a task that led them to truly make a mark and create a sence of belonging.
Heidi Smith Hyde
story is a great example of how one can person can encourage many to build a community
and
connectivity.
More information about Multicultural Children’s Book Day:
Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019 (1/25/19) is in its 6th year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom. Our mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators.
